The price for a mid size car was a real bargain considering that all insurances were included w/o deductible. I drove the car for 2000 miles in 9 days through 5 countries and it behaved great. Service by Hertz was fast, professional and with a smile. Asking for more would be stealing! I'll use Auto Europe whenever I can.
I had a pretty flawless experience with Auto Europe. The car was ready on-time, the tank full, got the 4-door I needed with an automatic transmission (a must for this American driving in Australia!). The only minor drawback was the GPS I rented. It was outdated and added an additional $11.50 per day to the rental. Otherwise, not a worry to be had.
Auto Europe took care of reserving the vehicle, and it was ready for us as expected, however we paid for a full size sports car, with the picture of a well equipped high-end Audi, and ended up with some cheesy Skoda VW model. Feels like we got the absolute least decent vehicle they could fit into the category we paid for. Oh well, live and learn. Next time I'll just book direct with a rental company.
AutoEurope negotiated my rental in Munich through Avis. The car was about a block from the rental desk and no-one accompanied me to or met me at the car. My first problem was trying to use the navigation system. It was not obvious that first you have to turn on the radio! I finally figured it out through trial and error. Then, I had to stop a passerby who worked for another rental company to show me how to get the car in reverse. I guess I could have sat there and read the manual but I was in a hurry. Some human help would have been appreciated. When I returned the car there was no Avis person there to check me in. Other personnel in the return area commented that the Avis rep is seldom around. Otherwise the car was nice and performed well. I guess these are not AutoEurope problems but I don't recommend renting through Avis.
Before I used auto Europe us, I usually booked directly with the rental company. On more than one occasion they had to add extra insurance at a premium. My rental with Auto Europe included insurance with 0 deductible for less than half the price of my last direct rental. Both cars were rented from the same car company at the same location. Amazing.
Some confusion about where to leave the car after hours. She said to park it on the street "somewhere" and leave the keys in the box, yet there was space on their entry driveway, which is what we did since there was no parking near the store. Apparently that was OK.
For the first time after renting from several car hire companies over a period of 30 years I drove the car I hired. Most times I get a car I did not hire or the firm has nothing left in the line of cars ordered.
The front desk employees were very friendly and helpful.
The setup is very easy to get to your car and to return car.
I will be using Auto Europe next June! Also the man that drove the shuttle bus to and from the car rental and terminal was very nice and
The advertise price was suppose to include almost everything... the reality is that I ended up paying $552.37 to AutoEurope and another $485 directly to Europcar which is almost the double. At this price point, I should have booked directly with Avis as I'm an Avis preferred member instead of waisting my time with AutoEurope.
My check-in experience at the EuropeCar desk in Melbourne involved a 10 minute wait, but once I got to the counter everything was smooth and efficient. My car (VW Jetta) was exactly as advertised and ran well. My only complaints about the car were a slight cigarette odor and a no smoking sticker on the windshield that partially obstructed my driving view. Booking through AutoEurope was fast and easy, and I got an excellent rate. I decided to add more insurance at the counter since it was my first time driving on the "wrong" side of the road. All in all, I was very satisfied with this car rental.
I did not pick up my car in Amsterdam until the fourth day of my trip. I realized on day two that I would be an hour late picking up my car. I called Auto Europe and they promply answered the phone even though it was 4:00am in the US. They called the local rental outlet and took care of everything for me. From the easy online reservation system to actually collecting the car I thought the service was very good.
I have used Auto Europe for many years now as I regularly travel to the UK to visit family, and have never had an issue with any rental. The staff have been really helpful, both in the US and abroad, and I look to them first for all my rental needs.
We have rented thru Autoeurope for our Spain trip and our Northern Europe trip. Both Times the car was nice clean and fun to drive. Easy pick up and drop off. But get a GPS. We didn't in Spain and had trouble finding hotels. We did up north and it worked great. Rented the GPS from auhoeutope seperate lay.
The saleslady in Glasgow was a bit over the top, continued selling even after I'd bought the upgrade. Then tried to scare me about the insurance, no doubt where the real money is. But the Peugeot 3000 was a delight to drive, if only I could have figured out the cruise control buttons. Returning the car at the airport was a breeze, the check-in man was friendly and thorough.
I ordered a Holden Cruise in Australia for 10 days. Instead I got a 4 wheel drive Nissan.
I wasn't pleased with the car. How can I order a mid-size car and get a 4 wheel drive large car that doesn't get good gas mileage??? Doesn't make any sense.
National car rental agents were not prepared for us even though I called from U.S. prior to leaving. Not obvious there was a 'take a ticket' system in operation at check in. Agent immediately tried to 'upgrade' us to a diesel car which which not cost effective for us. Car (VW polo) was smaller than the vauxhall astra we expected, requiring us to use back seat for luggage for your 2 months. Car was not clean with hairs, possibly dog on rear seat and rear shelf. 'Do it yourself' instruction policy operated. During the trip we had Email from national service center asking for our mileage and tire condition, whereas I expected the car to be able to be safe and in good condition for the 2 month rental.
Not a good experience considering the expensive price paid for al long term rental.
I regularly use Auto Europe and find their service consistent and the cars as described. As a traveler who comes from the US to FRA and rents at the airport, their location and the ease of getting my car works well for me. I will remain a regular customer.
I reserved my car online for a certain number of days and was given a total amount of money that was charged to my card. When I got to the counter to pick up the pre-paid car I learned that there was an extra 50Euro charge for airport pick up fee, this was never clearly stated to me although I selected airport pick up. There was also no mention of the 27Euro a day for an additional driver. In the end this was the most expensive car rental I have ever had. The information on additional fees was NOT CLEARLY stated and it was very upsetting get stuck at 7AM in the airport with an additional 150Euro to pay on an aready pre-paid car rental.
I feel I should be reimbursed for the fees that were not made clear to me.
We had a good trip and much of it was due to our experience with a friendly staff and honest advise about the cars, the trip driving in a foreign country... Everything! We'll use AutoEurope every time from now on.
1 I had cancelled a booking and made a different one . Arriving at the desk, the first booking had not been cancelled.
2. We were sent to a Zone to choose one of 5 or 6 cars. No one came to show us anything about the car.
3. We tried a Vauxhall and found it almost impossible to drive in the parking lot.
We changed the Vauxhall for a Fiat.
4. The car was difficult to drive, the gears were rather stiff and difficult to change.
5. The lack of service was really appalling.
As a result we will not choose this company again, nor will our friends.
We have rented through AutoEurope in France, Italy and Spain, and most recently in 3 areas within Australia. Several times we have had no-charge upgrades in our vehicles, good value, and no service issues. They are our first-line international rental agency, and we will be renting from them again for certain.
On the great side, we got an unexpected upgrade to a larger vehicle. I honestly don't think both luggage & passengers would have fit into the car we originally reserved. Unfortunately, on the not so great side, we had immediate mechanical complications. Fortunately, we hadn't travelled that far and were able to turnaround and head back to the rental place. The replacement car was a tad smaller, but we made it work.
The other disappointing obstacle was the separate form I thought I had filled out on line for a free GPS. I apparently hadn't and the rental company refused to honor that offer. They also declined to add a GPS to compensate for the lost time/inconvenience of the mechanical failure, sitting the free upgrade.
All things considered, we still had a great trip.
I have rented cars through Auto Europe for years. The services is getting worse each time, with increasing hidden costs, no possibility to upgrade the cars and no rewards for repeat customers. I won't use the company anymore as there are many other choices online!
I've used Auto Europe at least a dozen times, always without a single problem. They're great! Great prices, good cars, lots of options. They consistently beat every regular car rental service, as well as Expedia.
I needed a car for 33 days while traveling through Europe. I checked on the sites of the international car rental companies and then checked on Auto Europe US. The rate quoted by Auto Europe US was about 40% of the rate quoted by the car rental companies! even with my Gold membership. I picked up the car at the Hertz rental counter in Brussels and returned it to a train station in Paris. Things went very smoothly and I will recommend Auto Europe US to my friends and colleagues who need a car in Europe.
Have used Auto Europe several times, some with reasonable notice period & others at short notice and on each occassion have obtain a good rate received a good product in a simple and smooth process that got me in & out quickly with no hassle.
In short would use again & recommend to others.
I used Auto Europe after looking at various prices and the added benefit of a free additional driver. Auto Europe had the best price, including the additional driver. It is very important for us to have the additional driver without additional cost, since we rent for a month or more per vacation. I have used Auto Europe before, and will do so again if they offer these enticing prices and the free extra driver. Also, and very important, their customer service is patient and helpful.
When we turned in our car at Heathrow, the agent for Auto Europe began doing the usual walk around. It was clear that he was disappointed to not find any major damage. Soon he was kneeling on the ground, squinting and picking at the passenger side tires and hubcaps. There were the usual minor (read: hard to see unless you are lying on the ground next to the car) scratches and dings in the tires/hubcaps. He stood up and announced that the damage to the 'wheels' would need to be charged to my account. I was furious and demanded that we speak to a manager. While waiting for the manager, we watched this same shameful routine playing out with other customers, most of whom meekly walked into the office and handed over their credit cards. When the manager finally arrived, she dismissed us with no comment. I smell a rat. This company should be ashamed for this kind of evil fund raising.
I have used Auto Europe many times and have always found their cars and customer service reliable and easy to work with...except for my last experience in Oct. 2013. I arrived at the scheduled time to pick up a rental car in Edinburgh and there were no other customers but it still took almost two hours before I was able to drive away. This particular location (outside of the city centre) was inefficent and unorganized. There seemed to be plenty of employees around but nothing got done. Finally a car was produced but it had a completely bald tire with actual metal showing through. We had another long delay while waiting for them to produce a second car. As we drove off I noticed that the gas tank wasn't completely full but decided assume the additional expense rather than deal with that lot any more. I honestly believe the company is great, but this location needs a new manager, and quickly.
We rented in Melbourne, contracting for a VW Golf, receiving a Jetta. Drove to Adelaide dropping off downtown. No problems whatsoever except the charge for a different city exceeded the rental cost but this seems pretty typical. We have had great success with Auto Europe in the past.
My Aussie friend (who drives on the left) and I (USA), two old ladies, very old ladies, picked up our rental in York, England for a month's trip through the Midlands, Cotswolds, and Cornwall, in the car most days. VERY HARD to find an automatic in the UK, but Europcar found one (bigger than we wanted, but we managed). Not sure of where we would leave our "one-way hire," we ended up in Salisbury. The manager of Europcar, Salisbury, was probably the kindest, most fun, easy guy to return an unexpected car in all of the UK! We didn't pay extra (like most rentals) for being old, after a couple of hundred miles I whizzed around the round-abouts like a native, and the car and service picking it up, swapping it for a smaller car, and dropping it off was all what travelers hope for when they go abroad.
